Many people who love animals are in no position to have one of their own.
If you feel you might like to help out but dont know where to start, then read on for some options that would greatly assist us in our work.
1. Volunteer your time - help is always required doing the unpleasant jobs! Please use the contact form if you're interested in making a REGULAR contribution.
Dog walking - important for those animals that need individual attention. Grooming and bathing - a neverending task, great for bonding with shy animals.
Cleaning - Keeping kennels and yards clean is essential, and very hard work, especially when the dogs help! DIY - we always need people with DIY skill.
2. Make a donation - our work is expensive, principally due to the cost of heat, light and veterinary care. Please send all contributions to the address shown under "Contacts" - your assistance would be greatly appreciated.
3. Fundraise in your area/ at work. How a benefit night in your local, a hamper raffle, sponsored walk, etc .
4. Tell your friends about our work and pass the website address on!
5. Sponsor us - Financial help is the most effective way of helping us to continue to care for the animals which come to our centre.
Although many other worthy "human" causes appeal to you for support, animal charities also need help and we hope that you will also be prepared to support our work in some small way. Having a dependable income via Standing Orders enable us to plan our month to month expenses and provides some security to an otherwise precarious operation. It also minimises the time spent fundraising - so we can continue to provide a safe haven for all the desperately lonely creatures who need our help.
5.1. For as little as €5 per month, you could make a huge difference. Click on
"Standing Order" and print the form.
5.2. Covenant - we hope to be able to use this tax efficient method shortly -watch this space!
5.3. Bequest - should you wish to remember our work in your will, just pass our details to your solicitor.

Friends of Animals was founded in April 1995, in response to an urgent local need for somewhere to bring distressed animals and birds - from domestic, farm or wild situations.
We opened our shelter on 1 acre, with little more than a handful of caring people, who were willing to help. A few communal houses were built for us by Stephen, assisted by family and friends. We have rescued and rehabilitated almost 4,700 animals, mostly dogs, since and have been instrumental in assisting local gardai prosecute three cruelty cases. When involved with injured wild animals we usually seek specialist advice from other groups.

Opening a shelter is a huge committment, and after almost 10 years of struggling, we're still here, thanks to support from Dept of Agriculture, Fas, ISPCA, and our many local volunteers and commercial sponsors. They are a vital part of the network that keeps us afloat, and we are grateful to them for the support. we also work closely with the local Dog Warden, and Auburn Veterinary Hospital, both of whom are a vital part of the equation and whose support we are delighted to have.
We no longer handle cats on the premises - due to the large number of dogs. We refer all queries to local cat shelters and have similar links to Bea's Collie Rescue and Madeleines Animal Centre. These centres rescue and rehome, in addition to spaying, neutering and nursing. For more info on these Centres, click here

Most of our charges are dogs - but they dont live in cages - they live as a group, which works well, with supervision. Occasionally, we might have a bully, or a timid animal that must be separated for safety. We often hear people say "I wouldn't like to visit - it would make me sad" - come and let us change your mind.
